If you click on Melbourne forecast or Victorian forecast on the menu (the left-hand side of this page), the Figure 1 (below) is an example of what will appear on your screen.

There are a number of functions and options available for using this forecasting facility. Functions and options appear in the form of drop down lists, for example An example of a drop down list available on the system, as well as buttons, for example An example of a button available on the system.

For an explanation of the functions and options available, please use your mouse to click on a section of interest on Figure 1 below.

Date

The top section of the AAQFS function contains the date the forecast is referring to.

This is a map of the region the forecast is referring to, with suburbs and surrounding waters marked out. Different coloured sections of the map represent pollutant concentrations. A colour scale is located on the bottom right hand side of the map which represents what each colour means.

Clicking on this drop down list allows you to select the particular pollutant you wish the map information to refer to. The options available are:

  • Air Quality Index
  • Ozone
  • Sulfur dioxide
  • Particle Matter < 10 Micron
  • Airborne Particle Index
  • Nitrogen Dioxide
  • Carbon Monoxide

Clicking on this drop down list allows you to view map information for any one-hour forecast of the selected pollutant for any of the 24 hours of the day. The selection Max shows the maximum pollution level for each area over the forecast 24-hour period.

This button allows you to rewind the forecast. Once you click this button you will notice the figure in the Max Drop Down List decrease. This figure will continue to drop until you press the Stop button.

This button allows you to go back an hour.

This button stops the Rewind or Fast Forward functions.

This button allows you to go forward an hour.

This button allows you to fast forward the forecast. Once you click this button you will notice the figure in the Max Drop Down List increase. This figure will continue to rise until you press the Stop button.
