Air Quality For Kids is designed for students and is a window into EPA Victoria's database of air quality measurements. Air pollution is a problem of urban living and remains one of the main environmental concerns for Victorians. Since the 1970s, EPA has been measuring Melbourne and Geelong’s air pollution from its automatic air monitoring stations. The air pollutants selected for reporting in Air Quality For Kids are Particles, Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Ozone (O3), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Hydrocarbons (HC). Pollution levels are strongly affected by the prevailing temperature and wind conditions, so these conditions are also reported. Not all of these criteria are measured at each station. A list of the pollutants measured at each air monitoring station is available. Access to the air quality data is on a geographic and historical basis with separate reports provided for each Air Monitoring Station and over the length of time that particular Air Monitoring Station has been monitoring air quality.
