Greenhouse  Effect Story Board

A series of pictures, with accompanying text, which explains the natural greenhouse effect. They also explain how human activities are contributing to the enhanced greenhouse effect.

Narrative:
Our atmosphere is made up of gases that allow the sun's light energy to pass through and warm the earth.
Solar radiation, mostly as visible light, passes through the atmosphere and strikes the surface of the earth.
Most of the heat energy that this creates is radiated back out towards space, but as it passes back through the lower part of the atmosphere...
...some of the heat is trapped by greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide. This natural process, called the "Greenhouse Effect", keeps the surface of the Earth warm enough to sustain life.
In the past 200 years, human activity, particularly burning fossil fuels and land clearing,...
...has generated about 28% more greenhouse gases.
Most scientists believe that this will trap more heat and raise the temperature of the earth's surface. This is known as "The Enhanced Greenhouse Effect", and could lead to significant climate change and raising of sea levels.
So when we use the energy from fossil fuels in our home,...

...or when we drive a car, we are adding to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and to the...
... risk of changing our climate and raising sea levels.
