EPA and the Global Footprint Network

EPA is a founding member of the Global Footprint Network and EPA Chairman, is a member of its Science and Policy Advisory Council. The Global Footprint Network's mission is to support the shift toward a sustainable economy by advancing the Ecological Footprint, a measurement and management tool that makes the reality of global limits central to decision-making throughout the world. The organisation co-ordinates research and develops standards for the method, so the tool becomes ever more scientifically robust and policy relevant.

Global Footprint Network is now an EPA Sustainability Covenant partner.

Mathis Wackernagel, Director of the Global Footprint Network and co-inventor of the Ecological Footprint concept, visited Victoria and NSW in early 2006. Together with EPA, Wackernagel facilitated a number of workshops, events and meetings in Melbourne and Sydney to build capacity within government, business and the broader community to improve resource efficiency and drive innovative applications of Ecological Footprint as a means to living well on one planet.

EPA Victoria continues to work in partnership with the Global Footprint Network, supporting the use of Ecological Footprint and working toward turning the vision of a sustainable future into reality.
