introduction

There are a range of multimedia assets within the reference section that could be of use to the teacher outside of The Australian Greenhouse Calculator (AGC) program. This material includes 3 animated movies and their scripts, an interactive animation and a range of designed Excel spreadsheets for specific student activities. These assets are available to you in two ways without having to launch the AGC program.

You can either look at the items below and then save them, or go straight to the Media folder in the Teachers section.

To view these items you will need:

The QuickTime movies are available in two file sizes corresponding to image size and quality and should allow for high quality play back across a range of computers.

The Flash movie, though viewed here in a fixed window size, can be viewed full screen if opened in its own window. You will need the free Shockwave plug-ins to view these animations. You can save the Flash movie and then open it in it's own window and maximise it for full screen playback. As the text is not editable, the separate script document is provided which contains all the text found in the animation.

Hopefully these assets prove to be useful and valuable teaching tools for you and enjoyable and informative for your students. [Note: You can then choose to save it to your hard disc to be used full screen [hardware allowing] on your computer or on a TV monitor using an Averkey or similar PC to TV converter.

This detailed interactive animation shows the changes that have occurred to the carbon cycle from pre-industrial civilisation to present day through to 3 different future scenarios:

  • continuing increasing rate of use of carbon based (CB) fuels,
  • some action is taken to decrease the rate of use of CB fuels,
  • a strong regulatory response that leads to an eventual decrease in the rate of use of CB fuels.

The user can zoom in on many components in the animation to find out about the effect or contribution of that element.
