Guidance for water authorities
The wastewater industry plays an important role in reducing our impact on the water environment. Water authorities operate plants that treat the household, commercial and industrial wastewater collected by sewerage systems.
The plants treat this water so that it can be reused or discharged to the environment in accordance with EPA requirements. These authorities are major EPA clients and EPA has prepared publications to assist them to operate sustainably:
- EPA Publication 1287 – wastewater discharge risk assessments
(PDF, 784KB). - EPA Publication 473 – Managing Sewage Discharges to Inland Waters
(PDF, 72 KB) - EPA Publication 483 – Information Bulletin: Managing Sewage Discharges to Inland Waters
