Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) today joined Victoria’s mining regulator to inspect water management strategies at Mandalay Resources’ Costerfield mine site following heavy rain.
The site is regulated by a mining licence issued by Earth Resources Regulation (ERR), a branch of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.
Mandalay Resources advises EPA Victoria and ERR there is currently adequate onsite storage and it appears unlikely it will need to discharge water offsite in the near future.
EPA Victoria will continue to monitor the site, supporting both ERR and Mandalay Resources on ways to manage water from its Costerfield mining operation. Any offsite discharge that may occur must be controlled and with the authority of EPA Victoria.
