HOW WE BENEFITED THE ECONOMY
'The corporate licence represents a new platform for an open dialogue on opportunities to improve environmental outcomes…'
Mr CRAIG HEINER Managing Director North East Water Ltd

We cut red tape with our corporate licences
We removed just over half the licences you require by introducing new corporate licences in a major contribution to the Victorian Government’s objective of cutting red tape and improving environmental performance.

What we did
We further developed new corporate licences as part of our contribution to the Victorian Government’s initiative to reduce the burden of regulation on industry.
The corporate licences were developed in partnership with our clients in the water, waste, dairy and manufacturing sectors.
The licences streamline operating and site discharge limits and waste acceptance conditions into a single, more readily understood document.
This provides your business with a consolidated framework of your environmental requirements, lessens your administrative burden and reduces your compliance reporting to a single annual performance statement.

The red tape savings also mean we can work together and focus our efforts on ensuring long-term business and environment sustainability through part one of the corporate licences.

We approved 14 corporate licences to the end of June, removing 159 of the 310 potential licences that can be removed through the corporate licence process.
Now you only require one licence each.

We are examining our licensing and approvals procedures to ensure that this regulatory system is as efficient as possible.

What you said
“Gippsland Water welcomes the move to a corporate licence and thanks all those involved in its creation. We have already observed in our organisation a broader and more positive approach to the management of environmental issues and opportunities. Such innovations are directly linked to the corporate licence.”
Mr David Mawer
Managing Director
Gippsland Water

“Veolia are proud to be the first organisation in the resource recovery sector to sign a corporate licence with EPA Victoria, consolidating commitment from both organisations to leadership in sustainability and compliance.”
Mr Simon Tori
Group General Manager Victoria
Veolia Environmental Services

“From the outset, our view has been that entering into the corporate licence was an opportunity far beyond the immediate administrative benefits arising from the replacement of 18 individual waste water treatment plant licences. The corporate licence represents a new platform for an open dialogue on opportunities to improve environmental outcomes across all of our operations, moving the focus beyond site-based compliance objectives.”
Craig Heiner
Managing Director
North East Water Ltd

“Visy was delighted with the EPA’s proactive approach in working with us to streamline our licence and annual reporting processes. Together we have removed complexity and reduced costs, allowing Visy sites that have been managing their emissions effectively and consistently to have less prescriptive requirements. We look forward to working with the EPA on other areas of mutually beneficial interest.”
Mr Tony Gray
Director of Sustainability
Visy Pty Ltd
