New EPA Chairman

Cheryl BatagolThe Victorian Government has appointed one of Victoria’s most respected environmental leaders, Cheryl Batagol, as the new Chairman of EPA Victoria.
 
Terry A’Hearn has been appointed Deputy Chairman and Acting Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Batagol has more than 40 years experience in environmental leadership.

She brings to the role her experience with numerous government boards including Chair of Melbourne Water, Deputy Chair of Sustainability Victoria and a member of the Victorian Catchment Management Council and the Victorian Sustainability Fund Advisory Panel.

Ms Batagol replaces Mick Bourke who held the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the EPA for seven years. He has recently been appointed as the CEO of the Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Ms Batagol commences at EPA on 7 September and said she was looking forward to driving EPA’s commitment to protect, care for and improve Victoria’s environment.

“Throughout much of my working life EPA Victoria has provided the environmental operating framework for the various organisations with which I have been involved,” she said. 

“I have come to deeply respect the EPA and its people and admire the depth of knowledge and skills applied to protecting our environment. I am honoured to be appointed as Chairman.

“The EPA has a long history of setting new standards in environment protection and ensuring the law is upheld. I will continue to strive for a collaborative and modern approach to achieving sustainable outcomes by looking for new and innovative solutions,” she said.

Mr A’Hearn has been with EPA for sixteen years and has been a member of EPA’s Executive Team for the last seven years.

“I have known and worked with Cheryl for many years in her different roles and I am really looking forward to welcoming her to EPA and working with her as EPA’s new Chairman,” he said.
