Air State environment protection policies
Air quality in Victoria is protected by two State environment protection policies or SEPPs, which are adopted by government to protect Victoria's air environment: State Environment Protection Policy (Ambient Air Quality) and State Environment Protection Policy (Air Quality Management).
Draft Protocol for Environmental Management (PEM) – Mining and Extractive Industries
The draft Protocol for Environmental Management (PEM) – Mining and Extractive Industries was released for public consultation until 18 August 2006. The PEM, once finalised, will be an incorporated document to the State Environment Protection Policy (Air Quality Management).
- Download the Draft Protocol for Environmental Management – Mining and extractive industry (Adobe PDF file, 281KB)
The PEM will be an important document to provide clarity to the mining and extractive industry in relation to environmental obligations and assessment process for air emissions.
The draft PEM:
- describes procedures for assessing and managing impacts related to air emissions from mining and extractive industries
- in particular, describes the requirements for assessing potential air impacts during the planning phase, and management and monitoring requirements for approved mining and extractive developments.
