Background
The Environment Protection Authority measures the mass of airborne particles, including dust in the air, as part of its air monitoring program.
Why Does EPA measure airborne particles?
Fine airborne particles are responsible for reducing visibility (due to the scattering and absorption of light) and for soiling and damping buildings. They can also have adverse effects on human health when they are inhaled.
EPA's studies into the incidence and composition of particles in the air assist in the development and implementation of strategies to control them.
