More about EREP

EREP history

EREP builds on the successful Industry Greenhouse Program (IGP). At the end of 2007, IGP had delivered annual greenhouse gas cuts of 1.23 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents and savings to business of $38.2 million each year. The average payback period for these efficiency actions was 20 months.

The Victorian Government, in Our Environment, Our Future - Sustainability Action Statement, committed to supporting industry to achieve significant gains in environmental resource efficiency. To deliver on this commitment, the Government expanded the IGP model to develop the statutory EREP program, using regulation to drive improvements in resource efficiency in business.

The draft EREP Regulations and Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) were prepared in 2007. EPA consulted with industry and other stakeholders before the Regulations were made and came into effect on 1 January 2008. EPA's response to the public comments received on the draft Regulations is available.
