Electronic report

In 2000 EPA developed an electronic application to assist Victorian companies to prepare and submit their reports for the National Pollutant Inventory (NPI). The application streamlines reporting, providing pre-filled administrative information, previous years' reports and automatic validation of the reports.

After a successful trial in Victoria, the electronic tool was adopted by the Australian Government Department of the Environment and Heritage in 2000–2001, and named National Reporting Tool (NRT), to enable companies across Australia to fulfil their NPI reporting responsibilities in a single electronic transaction.

Installing and upgrading the NRT

Installing the NRT for the first time

  • Install NRT (Version 2.0.5) – Self extracting archive (10774KB or 10.8MB)

To use the NRT you will need to contact EPA and register your details.

Upgrading your version of the NRT

If you reported to EPA in 2003 using the NRT, you can upgrade your existing software to the latest version using the link below.

  • Upgrade NRT to Version 2.0.5 – Self extracting archive (5087KB or 5.1MB)

For help with the National Reporting Tool, contact the NPI Team.

As part of its strategy of streamlining environmental reporting, EPA has added a capability to submit Annual Returns of Prescribed Industrial Waste via the NRT. The NRT allows submission of Annual Return data for both Waste Producers and Accredited Agents (detailed and aggregated) registered with WasteCert (EPA's online prescribed waste transport certificate system).
