Caravan parks project

Region: North East and Goulburn Valley

The Caravan Parks project is a partnership between EPA Victoria, North Eastern Victorian Regional Waste Management Group (NevRwaste), Goulburn Valley Regional Waste Management Group (Resource GV) and Sustainability Victoria. It is focused on driving resource efficiency and waste, energy and water reduction initiatives within caravan parks in north-eastern Victoria, with the aim of achieving long-term financial benefits for caravan parks. An additional objective is to reduce the risk posed by on-site treatment plants at caravan parks that neighbour a waterway. The project is run by a resource efficiency officer who undertakes audits in the parks. The officer assists them to develop options and implement them. For more information, contact Resource Efficiency Officer, Russell Gladigau on 5722 9498, or via email, or read about those involved in ‘Simple solutions – big savings’ (Adobe PDF file, 290KB).

Kananook Creek Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP)

Region: South East

Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP) logo

The Kananook Creek Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP) was the result of a resource efficiency partnership between EPA Victoria and Frankston City Council. The program ran over one year and involved a resource efficiency officer assisting 45 small to medium enterprises in the Kananook Creek area within Frankston Council, to become more efficient. Specifically, the officer worked with the businesses to identify ways they could reduce energy and water use, minimise waste production and improve quality of stormwater for greater profitability of the business and improved environmental management. The project was very successful, achieving significant savings in dollar terms for the businesses involved, and as a result, the second phase of this programme continues in the Boggy Creek region (see below). Some of the actions and savings have been highlighted in the project outcome documents, ‘Frankston businesses LIEP into savings!’ (Adobe PDF file, 205KB) and ‘Efficiency innovation supports a bright future’ (Adobe PDF file, 211KB).

Boggy Creek Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP)

Region: South East

Boggy Creek LIEP follows on from the Kananook Creek LIEP, which has assisted 45 businesses in the region to improve their resource efficiency. Boggy Creek LIEP began in February 2007, and audits have been performed at 25 manufacturing companies in Carrum Downs; already a number of opportunities for potential savings have been identified. Businesses currently participating in this programme produce a wide range of products, including furniture, metal products, plastics, timber framing, foodstuffs, packaging and paints. The second round of Boggy Creek LIEP will commence in January 2008, with a recruitment of a further 25 manufacturing businesses in the Carrum Downs area. For more information, contact LIEP Co-ordinator, Rob Powell on 0400 184 047, or via email.

Dandenong Creek Catchment Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP)

Region: South East

This project will be a two year program modelled on the success of the Frankston City Council LIEP, focusing on the small and medium sized businesses in the Dandenong Creek catchment area. Recruitment of businesses has commenced, with on-site audits, workshops and ongoing assistance from a resource efficiency officer to follow. Actions are aimed at reducing energy and water consumption, and waste generation. The actions identified through this process will be assessed to determine the benefits they will have to the local businesses. For more information, contact LIEP Co-ordinator, Rob Powell on 0400 184 047, or via email.

Moira Shire Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP)

Region: North East

The Moira Shire Local Industry Efficiency Programme (LIEP) is a regional pilot resource efficiency partnership between EPA Victoria and Moira Shire Council. The Moira pilot commenced in August 2006 involving a resource efficiency officer assisting 50 small to medium enterprises in and around Cobram, to become more efficient. The project involves working with businesses to enhance profitability through the identification of opportunities for energy, water and waste reductions, and improved stormwater management for the businesses involved. Success of the pilot will be measured in a similar way to the Kananook Creek LIEP, to assist in determining the feasibility of this style of regional project. For more information, contact Resource Efficiency Officer, Geoff Poll on 0439 360 656, or via email.
