A'Hearn, EPA Victoria at the signing ceremony.
SAM Indexes and EPA Victoria entered into a Sustainability Covenant on 24th October 2007. The covenant formalises the joint commitment between SAM Indexes and the EPA to promote sustainable investment within Australia.
SAM Indexes, headquartered in Switzerland, is part of the SAM Group, founded in 1995 as an independent asset management company. As leaders in the sustainability-driven investments products field, SAM’s clients include institutions such as banks, foundations and pension funds, as well as private investors. SAM conducts extensive research to identify companies that successfully meet sustainability criteria, and to integrate the criteria into the investment process.
In partnership with Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX, SAM Indexes has created a series of sustainability indexes to track the performance of companies who are leaders in the sustainability field.
In 2005, SAM Indexes launched the Australian SAM Sustainability Index (AuSSI) to focus on the sustainability performance of leading Australian companies.
The Sustainability Covenant will provide support to SAM in order to:
- assist with the development, implementation and promotion of AuSSI, and
- promote the principles of responsible investment to Australian companies in order to drive the expansion of the sustainable investment market.
