PACIA Sustainability Covenant

On the 17th March 2009 EPA and the Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association signed their second 3 year Sustainability Covenant.

This sustainability covenant is a reaffirmation of the public commitment by PACIA and EPA to work together towards a more sustainable Victoria.

PACIA is the peak body representing Australia's plastics and chemicals industries, the fourth largest manufacturing sector in the country, and half of PACIA's members are based in Victoria.

The first Sustainability Covenant saw the development of the Sustainability Leadership Framework for Industry.  This framework provides an industry wide approach for leading the plastics and chemical industries into a sustainable future.  By addressing priority areas and establishing industry wide goals the framework creates a platform to assist PACIA member companies to integrate sustainability into everyday business practices and decisions.

The outcomes of the first Covenant have been summarised and presented in the Review of PACIA and EPA Victoria Sustainability Covenant (July 2007).

The second Covenant will focus on the implementation of the Framework and achieving on the ground outcomes for PACIA members.  This will be accomplished through the development and delivery of tools, training and support programs to individual PACIA member companies.

For further details about PACIA, including Case Studies from projects under the Covenant visit the PACIA website.
