PACIA Sustainability Covenant
EPA and the Plastics and Chemicals Industry Association (PACIA) signed a 3 year Sustainability Covenant on 12 January 2004.
This sustainability covenant is a public commitment by PACIA and EPA to work together to protect the environment and to contribute to a more sustainable Victoria.
PACIA is the peak body representing Australia's plastics and chemicals industries, the fourth largest manufacturing sector in the country. Half of PACIA's 260 members are based in Victoria.
Through the framework of the Sustainability Covenant, PACIA and EPA have put in place initiatives that foster innovation and build capacity among plastics and chemicals companies to adopt sustainability issues at the core of decision-making processes in the industry. This has benefitted the Victorian environment, consumers and the profitability of the industry.
The first PACIA Sustainability Covenant expired in January 2007, and the outcomes of the first Covenant have been summarised and presented in the Review of PACIA and EPA Victoria Sustainability Covenant (July 2007). EPA and PACIA are currently developing a second Sustainability Covenant that will continue fostering innovation and building capacity in sustainability within the industry.
