EPA publishes a regular newsletter providing up-to-date information on Australasian sustainability developments in the finance sector.

UNEP Finance Initiative Geneva Newsletter, 0.618...

The Australasian newsletter compliments a newsletter produced by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) in Geneva, 0.618..., which provides news on international sustainability developments within the finance sector. The newsletter brings together a raft of ideas and actions relating to sustainable financing.

EPA promotes this international newsletter under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between it and the UNEP FI. The newsletter principally has an international focus but has at least one page for Australasian content in each issue.

• UNEP FI Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer legal duties study – A legal framework for the integration of environmental, social and governance issues into institutional investment (Adobe PDF file, 1257KB or 1.3MB)
  The report confirms that a number of the perceived limitations on the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decision-making are illusory. In fact, the law clearly permits and, in certain circumstances, requires that this be done. It concludes that the traditionally held view, that fund managers are precluded from taking ESG considerations into account in their investment decision-making, is unlikely to be applied by the courts in future, and that fund managers will in most circumstances be permitted, and even required, to take ESG considerations into account when making investment decisions.
