EPA response to Anglesea River Review
Anglesea welcomes the findings of the Anglesea River Water Quality Review that the most likely cause of fish deaths in the Anglesea River was natural causes.
EPA acknowledges the identification of knowledge gaps in the review, which has helped to guide further action we intend to take.
EPA’s response to the review forms part of a broader whole of Government approach to the Anglesea River.
As part of this approach EPA will commit to three specific actions, which include:
- Review Alcoa's licence, updating limits and conditions
- Require Alcoa to review current ash pond management to ensure it meets best practice and minimises impacts to the Anglesea River
- Develop an Anglesea River Estuary Fish Death Response Plan with assistance from Surf Coast Shire and other agencies.
