GBP Exports Pty Ltd
Background
EPA received a works approval application from GBP Exports Pty Ltd (GBP) on 13 April 2011. This proposal is for an expansion of the existing abattoir facility to provide a new kill floor to process a maximum of 3,000 sheep per day at 60 Gardner Lane, Poowong.
The works approval application was advertised in the Herald Sun, the South Gippsland Sentinel Times and the Warragul and Drouin Gazette on 20 April 2011. EPA received 20 submissions. The detailed submissions are attached below.
EPA held a public conference, chaired by an independent person, on 8 June 2011 inviting all interested parties, pursuant to section 20B of the Environment Protection Act 1970. The 20B conference report is available below. The report provides 11 recommendations for consideration by EPA in assessing this works approval application.
Following the conference and on 24 June 2011, EPA made a formal request to GBP Exports Pty Ltd seeking further information that is needed to support EPA’s assessment of the application. The request was in the form of a notice pursuant to section of 22 of the Environment Protection Act 1970. This notice incorporated the information requirements specified in the 20B conference report and included the following key aspects:
- clarification of proposed facility design and land areas
- land comparability assessment
- sewerage management
- demonstration of best practice of compost facility design
- clarification of noise impact assessment.
Additional information to be provided by GBP will be made available to the public when it is received
The works approval assessment is on hold until all required information is received.
