SITA Contaminated Soil Treatment Works Approval Application WA67356
On 16 January 2012, EPA Victoria issued SITA Australia Pty Ltd with a works approval to construct a soil treatment facility at its existing landfill in Taylors Road, Dandenong South.
In making the decision, EPA considered all comments and issues raised by the community. EPA’s assessment determined that the proposal is consistent with the Environment Protection Act 1970, the relevant State Environment Protection Policies and best practice guidelines.
As part of the approval EPA has required additional safeguards, including total enclosure of the contaminated soil storage area and 24 hour per day emissions monitoring with alarms to alert the site’s control room if emissions exceed limits and so prevent offsite impacts.
EPA completed its assessment of the application after the area was granted planning permission by Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) in December 2011.
