The Ecological Footprint Calculator for Retail Centres is an interactive tool to allow property managers and retail tenants to explore the Ecological Footprint of the building that a store or set of stores is a part of (possibly a shopping centre/mall). It also allows retail property owners and retail tenants to explore how different design options can bring about tangible reductions in the environmental impacts of their buildings and shop fit-outs.
Knowing the Ecological Footprint of your business activities can help you make decisions that save resources - both the planet's ecological resources and often your own financial resources through increases in operating efficiency. View our case studies to see how the Retail Calculator has been used in Victoria, and how its use and application have brought about environmental benefits and economic savings.
When attempting to open the Microsoft Excel application (using the link below), a message may appear asking whether or not you would like to open the application using macros. In order for the Calculator to function properly, select 'Yes, open with macros'.
Please also note that an error may occur when attempting to use the 'Save as...' feature in Microsoft Excel. This is a Microsoft Excel software bug that sometimes occurs with such files. In order to avoid the error you will have to rename the file when saving it (for example, from 'Retail_EF.xls' to 'Retail_EF2.xls').
Estimated completion time: 30-45 mins (excluding data collection)
