Brooklyn air monitoring results for May and June 2015

No days exceeded the PM10 air quality objective in Brooklyn during May and June.

Observations

Brooklyn’s air quality during May and June 2015 was the best it has been since EPA Victoria began monitoring air quality there in 2009. No days exceeded the PM10 air quality objective in Brooklyn during May and June 2015 and these latest results are in line with the continual air quality improvements recorded in Brooklyn since March 2014, with the exception of late March and early April in 2015, when conditions were extremely dry.

The results for 2015 so far show that the number of days exceeding the PM10 objective have reduced by at least half from every other year to the same stage, except for the very wet first six months of 2011.

Despite the promising results in May and June, seven days have still exceeded the PM10 air quality objective in Brooklyn so far in 2015, which is twice as many as anywhere else monitored by EPA and shows that more needs to be done to improve the local air quality. Two dusty roads within the Brooklyn Industrial Precinct are currently being sealed and this is expected to lead to further improvements in Brooklyn’s air quality.
