EREP case studies and fact sheets

EPA’s Environment and Resource Efficiency Plans (EREP) program is helping business reduce their resource use and improve their bottom line. Large energy and water reductions, and financial savings of $90 million each year are expected through actions that have a three-year or better payback period.

    Toyota Motor Corporation is the world’s largest vehicle manufacturer, with manufacturing operations in 26 countries and regions. Toyota Australia’s Altona site has identified significant savings can be made through continuous improvement activities.

  • Amcor.click for video 

    Amcor is a global packaging company, with operations in more than 40 countries. The Laverton North site has found that significant financial savings can be made from energy efficiency actions.

  • Coca-Cola Amatil.click for video 

    Coca-Cola Amatil is the Australian licensee of the global brand. Its Moorabbin bottling site in Victoria has found cost-effective savings through the EREP program.

  • Quality Bakers Australia.click for video 

    Quality Bakers Australia is part of the Goodman Fielder group. A range of bread is manufactured at its Clayton South bakery, which is delivered to supermarkets and grocery outlets throughout the state.

Bosch and EREP.Nestlé Australia and Robert Bosch Australia are two examples of businesses that have received an exemption from the need to prepare an EREP, because they already have an equivalent resource efficiency program in place. Read the EREP exemption case study (PDF 470KB).

Austin Hospital and EREP.The Austin Hospital in Heidelberg is one of three facilities managed by Austin Health. Through their EREP, the hospital is expected to make significant energy and waste savings. Read the Austin Hospital case study (PDF 536KB).

O-I and EREP.O-I is a global glass manufacturing company, employing more than 23,000 people worldwide. Its Spotswood plant in Victoria is expected to make significant energy, water and waste savings under EREP. Read the O-I case study (PDF 526KB).

Iluka and EREP.Iluka Resources is the world’s largest producer of zircon, with operations in Australia and the United States. In Hamilton, Victoria the company operates a mineral separation plant that is estimated to save energy and dollars under the EREP program. Read the Iluka Resources case study (PDF 526KB).

Sugar Australia and EREP.Sugar Australia operates refineries in Mackay, Queensland, and Yarraville, Victoria. The company has made significant investments to improve the resource efficiency and safety of its operations. SCA and EREP.SCA Hygiene has a proven track record in implementing water efficiency process improvements. EPA Victoria recognised this achievement by granting their Box Hill site a partial exemption from the EREP program. Read the SCA Hygiene case study (PDF 507KB).

Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory and EREP.The Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory is Australia’s oldest dairy processor. It produces cheese, butter, milk and cream. La Ionica Poultry and EREP.Through EREP, La Ionica Poultry has reduced waste and estimates it may save up to 45ML of water annually through reuse and process improvements. Read the La Ionica Poultry case study (PDF 387KB).
