Neighbourhood environment improvement plans
A neighbourhood environment improvement plan (NEIP) is a plan developed by a local community to address environmental issues in their neighbourhood.
It is an action plan designed to tackle issues that are important to the health, safety and enjoyment of local areas, by the people who live, work and play there.
NEIPs are broad reaching and can be adapted to a range of environmental issues that different neighbourhoods and communities face.
They are designed to build on and support other efforts to protect Victoria's environment and achieve sustainability.
When parliament passed the NEIP legislation, the Government announced EPA would run some pilots in the initial few years and then review progress.
The NEIP program is currently undergoing this review. This review will look at both the successes and possible areas for improvement into the future.
Whilst this review is underway, EPA is happy to discuss alternative approaches to community planning around complex environmental issues.
When the NEIP review is complete, the findings and future directions will be reported here.
