Contaminated Packaging Issues & Solutions Event exceeds expectations
The Contaminated Packaging Issues & Solutions Event held Friday 1 June was an outstanding success. Over one hundred people from industry attended the event in search of reuse or recycling solutions to their contaminated packaging waste streams that are currently disposed to landfill.
The event was managed by EPA Victoria in partnership with the Victorian Waste Management Association (VWMA), the Plastics and Chemical Industries Association (PACIA) and Australian Industry Group (AiG).
Those attending represented businesses that disposed of over 6,000 tonnes of prescribed industrial waste (PIW) to landfill in 2006, or more than 7% of all PIW landfilled. Exhibitors at the event included Ausplaztic, Australian Composite Technologies, Chemsal, Drum Brokers, Geocycle, Hyder Consulting, Olympic Polymers, Polyloop, Schutz DSL, VIP Packaging, alongside the partner industry associations and EPA.
Attendees surveyed rated the event 4 out of 5 for effectiveness with comments received including "when is the next one?" and a "very good networking opportunity". Exhibitors, who were also surveyed, found the event "exceeded their expectations" with the majority rating it a 5 out of 5.
EPA is in the process of following up with both attendees and exhibitors to measure the impact of the event in reducing PIW to landfill.
The event is one of a number of initiatives being driven by EPA to assist companies to both reduce their prescribed industrial waste to landfill whilst simultaneously reducing business costs.
