HazWaste Expo 2008 – A showcase of solutions

Hazwaste Expo 08The HazWaste Expo held Thursday 20th November 2008 was an outstanding success. Over three hundred people from industry, government and the waste consultant sector attended the event in search of innovative solutions to reducing hazardous waste and remediating contaminated soil.

Of the attendees surveyed more than 90% said they would follow up with exhibitors and more than 97% said they would attend again. Exhibitors appreciated the specific focus of the event and were impressed with the size and quality of the attendees. Both groups found it to be a great networking opportunity.

EPA is in the process of further follow up with both attendees and exhibitors to measure the impact of the event in reducing PIW to landfill.

Along with exhibitors the Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Innovation, Hon. Gavin Jennings demonstrated the commitment of the Victorian government towards collaborating with industry and business on hazardous waste.

A panel of experts, a group of hazardous waste consultants, was also there to answer any of those tricky hazardous waste questions.

The event is one of a number of initiatives being driven by EPA to assist companies to both reduce their prescribed industrial waste to landfill whilst simultaneously reducing business costs.

From the positive feedback received there is a call for this to be an annual event.
