Call for funding applications from community groups
EPA is seeking applications from community groups for new and creative ways to solve environmental problems and reduce environmental impacts.
EPA chief operating executive, Terry A’Hearn, said EPA wants to apply fresh thinking and inspirational solutions to Victoria’s environmental challenges through its Inspiring Environmental Solutions program.
“We are looking for proposals that tackle environmental issues or work with Victorian communities to change the way people think and act about issues such as climate change, pollution, or resource use,” Mr A’Hearn said.
“We would like to see community led proposals that enhance the environment in a public place or incorporate environmental activities that benefit the whole community.
“Funding for the program is sourced through a legislative scheme where the polluter pays.”
Under the Environment Protection Act 1970, a company or individual found guilty of environmental pollution may be directed by a Magistrate to fund a community environment project instead of, or in addition to, paying a fine.
“The total funding pool on offer each year will vary as funding is only available following the successful prosecution of a pollution incident and this occurs irregularly. Due to the nature of the program, proposals should also have flexible implementation timelines,” Mr A’Hearn said.
