Parkdale Secondary College young film makers
Jake Grantford and Gavin Scott, with their principal, receiving their award at the Parkdale Secondary College Awards night in December 2006.
Parkdale Secondary College students Jake Grantford and Gavin Scott won the lower secondary schools section of the 2006 EPA Victoria Act Now Short Film Competition when they were in year 7. Jake and Gavin scripted, filmed and edited their three minute black and white film called ‘Down the Drain.’ The film’s succinct message - litter dropped in the street eventually makes it’s way down the drain through the stormwater system and into the bay where it can threaten marine life - was creatively and effectively delivered by school friends and family members who portrayed dying fish and other marine creatures.
This talented duo have gone on to shoot a 12 minute film called ‘Graduation’ which looks at the transition from primary to secondary school. We wish them every success in future film ventures.
Teachers who are introducing the concept of stormwater pollution can borrow a copy of ‘Down the Drain’ by sending an email.
