Something to think about
A single flight across the Atlantic Ocean can guzzle about 60,000 litres of fuel, more fuel than the average motorist uses in 50 years of driving. Around 85,000 commercial flights take off each day. The net result, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is that pollution from high flying jets is up to four times as damaging as the same amount released at ground level (Daviss, B 2007, 'Green sky thinking: eight ways to a cleaner flying future' New Scientist, no 2592, 24 February 2007, p. 33).
The impact that air travel has on the size of your personal Ecological Footprint can clearly be seen when you calculate your Ecological Footprint online.
