Energy consumption has a direct effect on global warming

What to do:

1. Download the Illumination audit instruction sheet (Adobe PDF file) from the Eco'tude website.

2. To complete this activity you will need a light meter. If you don't have access to a light meter, complete activity 3b on page 17 of the Save Energy at School primary student workbook for Curriculum and Standards Framework (CSF) levels 3 and 4.

3. During your lighting audit comment on the following:

   • are lights left on or off?
   • are curtains open or closed?
   • are windows covered with artwork or displays?
   • are light levels appropriate for the activity taking place?

4. At the conclusion of your lighting audit devise an action plan and include the following:

   • recommendations for appropriate lighting in your school
   • an awareness raising campaign in your school about saving energy and greenhouse gases.
