Lyndhurst Landfill Community Engagement Steering Committee

Lyndhurst, Taylors Road Landfill is located in Melbourne’s South East and is operated by SITA Environmental Solutions External site.

The State Government has indicated its intention to rely on the Taylors Road Landfill at Lyndhurst for safe management and disposal of prescribed industrial (hazardous) waste. The EPA, in collaboration with the cities of Greater Dandenong and Casey and the landfill operator, SITA, has initiated a community engagement process for the facility to be guided by a Community Engagement Steering Committee (CESC) of 20 members.

Nominations to join the CESC were invited from people in March 2008 who felt able to represent a particular community sector, stakeholder group and/or geographic area with an interest in the Taylors Road Landfill at Dandenong South. It is intended that the CESC will reflect as much as possible the diversity of interests in the broader community.

The CESC is expected to play an important advisory role to ensure the fair, transparent and accountable inclusion of broader community views in decisions about the landfill. It is chaired by an independent facilitator, Mr . Bruce Turner of Phoenix Facilitation.

More details about the role of the group are outlined in the draft Terms of Reference.

If you are interested in the Lyndhurst facility and the CESC, information will be published regularly on the EPA website.
