Yarra Watch
22 November 2009
With heavy or persistent rain in areas of Melbourne, EPA Victoria is reminding Yarra River users that water quality may be affected.
Stormwater from drains and streams entering the Yarra River is a major factor affecting its water quality.
Historical monitoring has shown a deterioration in water quality within the Yarra after heavy rain, particularly in its lower reaches, from Dights Falls to Docklands.
Yarra Watch is an EPA Victoria program, providing recreational water quality monitoring information for the Yarra River. This section is updated weekly and when heavy rain or pollution incidents are expected to significantly affect water quality in the Yarra.
Reminder: Rivers contain a range of potential hazards (such as high flows, unseen objects, litter and bacteria), especially after heavy rains. As storms can occur in the catchment with little warning, river users should take care at all times and not swallow river water.
