Upper Yarra

The Upper Yarra section extends from the protected water supply catchment to the top of Warrandyte Gorge near Lilydale. Near Warburton, the Yarra descends rapidly through narrow valleys, surrounded by forested mountains. Below Wesburn the Yarra flattens out, meandering through agricultural land and passing through a number of towns, where widespread clearing in the past has reduced the amount of vegetation near the river. Activities that influence water quality in the lower parts of this section include agriculture, vineyards and stormwater from townships. The major tributaries entering the river in this section include the Little Yarra, Woori Yallock Creek, Badger Creek, Watts River and Olinda Creek.
