New environmental laws came into effect on 1 July 2021. The Environment Protection Act 2017 gives EPA more powers and tools to prevent risks to the environment and human health. They also allow us to issue stronger sanctions to hold polluters to account.

To be successful in meeting our responsibilities and the expectations of our government and communities, we need to ensure we can effectively deliver on our core regulatory functions for Victorians and our environment.

To achieve this, EPA has reviewed and implemented a new operating model that took effect from 1 November 2021. It is based on strengthening our core capabilities, ways of working, and how we are organised to deliver for our communities and environment.

Our new operating model makes sure we have the right capabilities in the right places. It will enable us to build organisational flexibility and agility so we can respond quickly to changes in our priorities and external environment.
