Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has charged a company and an individual following a comprehensive investigation into the dumping of a large volume of highly acidic material at North Shore, Geelong

Marlie Transport Pty Ltd was charged after community reports alleging a driver had dumped acidic waste material near to roadside drains.

The charges allege that the company and the individual did cause or permit an environmental hazard, through the discarding or abandonment of sulphuric acid on a roadside at Madden Avenue, North Shore.

In addition, the company and the driver have also been charged with aggravated pollution, the most serious offence under the Environment Protection Act 1970.

The matter is currently listed for an administrative hearing later this month before the Magistrates’ Court. As the matter is before the Court, EPA will be making no further comment.
