Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) and relevant government organisations will hold a meeting to update the community with the latest information from the illegal waste dump site 15 kilometres south of Kaniva, near Lemon Springs.

EPA will be joined by representatives from Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water Corporation (GWMWater), West Wimmera Shire Council, AgVic, WorkSafe and CFA.

“We’ve been very active on the site and have strengthened our understanding of the issues posed by the presence of these buried containers,” said Dr Scott Pigdon, EPA North West Regional Manager.

“New bores have been dug on site to monitor groundwater, which is still showing no contamination, preliminary excavations have also started, and further mapping has been done using the EPA drone-mounted, ground penetrating radar.

“I’d encourage people to come to the meeting where they will receive additional information to that provided in our monthly updates, as well as be able to put questions to EPA and other relevant government organisations.”
