EPA’s new website is under construction. It contains links to our previous site while we add information.

Any business or industry activity, from small start-ups to large operations, can have an impact on the environment. It’s your responsibility to manage risks and make sure your business doesn’t harm the environment.

You can manage your business’s risks to the environment by using:

  • environmental management plans
  • environmental management systems.

An environmental management plan is a site or project-specific plan. It clearly defines appropriate environmental management practices to ensure your business or project has no impact on the environment.

An environmental management system looks at the bigger picture. It provides a framework for your business to:

  • manage your environmental impact
  • fulfill your compliance obligations
  • address potential risks to the environment
  • demonstrate improvements in processes.
