EPA’s new website is under construction. It contains links to our previous site while we add information.

Contamination can affect the quality of Victoria’s water environments.

Water contamination can come from pollutants like chemicals, oil or heavy metals.

EPA aims to protect our water environments from the threat of contamination. We do this by investigating reports and issuing clean up notices.

Current water quality issues include:

  • CFA regional training centres, where firefighting chemicals have caused contamination.
  • Department of Defence training sites, which have low-level surface water and groundwater contamination.
  • Sunshine Harvester Works, where there is groundwater contamination.

EPA is continuing to regulate environmental impacts at these sites.
