EPA has a regulatory role in part of the Fingerboards Mineral Sands Project.

The project needs a works approval under the Environment Protection (Scheduled Premises) Regulations 2017 because of its surface water discharges. The water needs to be treated before it is discharged. The project will also need an EPA licence.

We received and accepted a works approval application on 22 July.

The works approval application is part of the Environment Effects Statement (EES). It is available from the Kalbar Fingerboards Mineral Sands Project webpage

You can lodge submissions though Engage Victoria.

We don't have a role in approving:

  • the mine
  • the tailings storage facility
  • ancillary infrastructure and site facilities.

The Environment Effects Statement (EES) process will consider these parts of the project.
