EPA was a support agency for the Hazelwood coal mine fire response. Its responsibilities were to monitor and analyse the air, soil and water in order to detect any potential environmental issues related to the fire. The results from EPA’s air monitoring during the Hazelwood coal mine fire were provided to the Department of Health to assess potential impacts on human health and inform the community.
