What it contains

As an independent statutory authority under the Environment Protection Act 2017 (the Act), our role is to prevent and reduce harm from pollution and waste.

This policy explains how EPA and its authorised officers (AOs) use the remedial powers provided in the Act to deal with non-compliance and risks of harm to human health and the environment.

These remedial powers include statutory remedial notices and orders and directions, which are legal directives to conduct works, stop activities or carry out investigations. These tools give EPA the power to intervene earlier and more effectively, to prevent harm.
