Assessing an application for a composting facility

This guideline provides information to assist responsible authorities and planning permit applicants in identifying risks and risk controls associated with composting activities, in order to prepare and assess planning permit applications for both standalone composting facilities, and for other land uses which involve composting activities.

This guideline is aimed at smaller composting facilities/activities which fall within the ‘prescribed registration activity’ threshold limits set out in Schedule 1 of the Environment Protection Regulations 2021.
