Type of offence or contravention | Disobey condition of licence at Brooklyn on 01.08.10, contrary to s.27(2) |
Background of offence or contravention | In February 2010, EPA received a number of reports from neighbouring businesses and residents concerned about the odours coming from the site. The odour was described by witnesses as ‘so offensive it made me nauseous’ or ‘worse than a rotting meat odour it was like a dead carcass’. An inspection both onsite and in the residential area, by EPA officers confirmed the source of the odour was from the premises of Australian Tallow Producers Pty. Ltd. EPA issued a Pollution Abatement Notice which required substantial modification to the plant and processes at the premises. The premises is licensed under the Environment Protection Act. The licence contained conditions regarding the discharge of offensive odour from the premises. The EPA investigation revealed that this licence condition had been breached. |
