Cleanaway Operations Pty Ltd has withdrawn its application for an EPA development licence for its proposed waste-to-energy facility to be known as the Melbourne Energy and Resource Centre in Wollert.

EPA has now ceased review of the original application.

Recycling Victoria recently announced new cap licences for waste-to-energy facilities proposed for Victoria.

As the cap for Cleanaway’s proposed facility in Wollert has been significantly increased, Cleanaway will have to submit a new application for a development licence for a waste-to-energy facility to EPA.

EPA Victoria’s role is to assess the new application when it is submitted and ensure any impacts on the environment and human health are managed effectively. EPA will also ensure the community is consulted on the new application.

EPA Victoria does not decide where facilities are located. The final decision on a facility’s location is with the Minister for Planning.
