Large scale wind energy facilities, also known as ‘wind farms’, are a growing part of Victoria’s renewable energy future. There are now multiple wind energy facilities operating across Victoria. More wind energy facilities are either in planning or in construction.

A wind energy facility must have a planning permit. The permit contains a wide range of planning conditions for wind energy facilities, both during construction and operation. Some of the permit conditions relate to the management of wind energy facility noise.

Noise emissions from operating wind turbines are managed under the environment protection regulation framework. Find out more about wind energy facility noise and the law, including how you can report it.

Wind turbine noise is managed by the wind energy facility noise regulations.

Noise from substations and electricity transmission infrastructure comes under commercial, industrial and trade noise.
