Wind energy facilities, also known as wind farms, are a growing part of Victoria’s renewable energy future. There are now multiple wind energy facilities operating in Victoria. More wind energy facilities are either in planning or in construction.

There are planning conditions for wind energy facilities in construction and once they’re operating. Some of these conditions manage wind energy facility noise.

Wind energy facility noise includes noise from:

  • wind turbines
  • substations and electricity transmission infrastructure.

While wind turbine noise comes under wind energy facility noise, substations and electricity transmission infrastructure noise doesn’t. This comes under commercial, industrial and trade noise.

Find out more about wind energy facility noise and the law, including how you can report it. A change to regulation of wind energy facility noise is proposed. For more information, see Engage Victoria.
