Everyone in Victoria has a legal responsibility to eliminate, or otherwise reduce, risks to human health and the environment, from pollution and waste from their activities, so far as reasonably practicable.
If you're growing crops or animals, big or small, or running a farming activity, you need to consider the risks of harm.
Under the General Environmental Duty, you must take reasonable steps to minimise the risks of harm, so far as reasonably practicable.
You need to continually assess risks from your activities and use effective controls to manage them.
You also need to have reasonable knowledge from reliable sources about risks from your activities and how to manage them.
Examples on where to find this information are business and industry resources, guidance documents and industry groups.
At EPA, we work with individuals, businesses and communities to help them understand their responsibilities and take practical steps to do the right thing.
We also take action against those who don't.
We're here to support you to manage your risks and protect the environment and people around you.
