Permission information and performance statements

Learn how to submit a Permission Information and Performance Statement (PIPS) and what you need to include in it.

Our permissions have certain conditions that you must meet. Condition G4a means you must report to us.

If your permission has the G4a condition, we may send you a request to submit a Permission Information and Performance Statement (PIPS).

What information to include

We only ever ask you for information that is specific to your permission.

In your PIPS, you may need to include information about:

  • the amount of waste you accept
  • the amount of waste you generate and store
  • landfill capacity
  • discharges to air and water
  • power generation
  • risk management.

You need to keep your records up to date to be able to complete your PIPS. You must keep information and monitoring records for 5 years. You must provide them to us if we request.

How to submit your PIPS

You do not have to submit a PIPS until we ask you to.

We email you a PIPS notification. Each PIPS may have a different set of questions.

When you receive the email, you have 2 months to log in to the portal(opens in a new window) and answer the questions.

Every business with a permission has an account on the portal. Any contact linked to the business account can complete the PIPS.

If you're a contact registered on our database, you can go to the portal and create a new sign-in. This links you to the business account. You can then access records, applications and PIPS notifications for the business.

Businesses can also create administrators to manage their own accounts. For more information, visit the portal.

What information is provided to the public

Under the Environment Protection Act 2017, we must maintain and make available public registers. This supports a culture of transparent reporting to the Victorian community.

We publish some of the information you provide in your PIPS on our public register under permissioning decisions. If you cannot find a statement, please contact us.

Each section of the PIPS clearly states what information is included on the public register. We do not release commercial-in-confidence information to the public. This includes volumes of waste accepted or product produced.

We continuously review the amount of information and data available to the public. We make changes to the amount and type of information on the public register in consultation with industry.

You can view annual performance statements under the old Environment Protection Act 1970 on our public register under annual performance statements.
