Monitoring our environmental impact and performance
Our environmental management system identifies, monitors and controls our environmental impact and performance. This includes our offices, laboratory and field-based operations.
We also monitor the activities of our buildings, including:
- energy and use
- materials and waste management
- transport
- purchasing activities.

Carbon neutral since 2005
Our carbon management principles help us manage our greenhouse gas emissions. We:
- buy only carbon offsets approved in the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard
- use global standards to measure our carbon footprint.
We measure emissions resulting from our work and from businesses in our supply chain – for example, car and boat fuel, catering and taxi travel. We also assess the energy we buy.
We measure our greenhouse gas emissions using:
- activity data to measure the intensity of an activity
- quantification methods to calculate the emission quantity.
We get external proof that our greenhouse gas record is correct. We also make sure external sources assess our greenhouse gas management plan.
