The state’s crackdown on illegal waste dumping has seen a major multi-agency inspection on a property in Wildwood Rd, Wildwood.
The inspection, on 14 April 2026 involving 22 officers from EPA, Victoria Police, Hume City Council and emergency services, came after members of the community reported seeing waste dumping activity on the rural property.
On inspection, officers found large stockpiles of industrial waste illegally deposited and buried onsite.
“Laboratory results have confirmed the presence of asbestos-containing material within several of the stockpiles,” said EPA North Metropolitan Regional Manager Steve Riley.
“The site does not have a licence to accept waste, which presents a risk to the environment as well as a fire risk. Licensed sites have appropriate controls in place, so risks are properly addressed.
Mr Riley said police were also pursuing other avenues of investigation and council was also considering their next actions.
“Waste dumping is a crime. The new Illegal Waste Dumping Taskforce , is tackling illegal waste dumping on public land, also takes an interest because of the high likelihood that those willing to illegally dump waste on private land will do it anywhere.”
EPA and Victoria Police investigations continue but EPA notices will be issued requiring that waste ceases to be delivered to the site, the waste already there is properly disposed of and more information provided.
If members of the public have any information that could help, they are asked to call EPA on 1300 372 842 and www.epa.vic.gov.au or Victoria Police.
