Illegal waste dumping taskforce

Government agencies and councils are teaming up to tackle the rising problem of illegal dumping. Find out how you can help.

Report it

We want you to be able to enjoy shared public spaces, free of illegally dumped waste.

You can help. Not only by reporting dumps, but by giving any information you can about the people or businesses that did it.

Snap a photo, record a number plate and vehicle type, take note of the time or the business name on the vehicle.

By helping us track down those responsible, we’ll clean up the mess and make sure they foot the bill.

Taskforce overview

The problem

Illegal waste dumping is on the rise in Victoria’s parks, forests and public land.

Be it old tyres or truckloads of toxic soil – the people who do this know it’s wrong. They hide what they’re doing, travelling to quiet locations and unloading in the dark.

They ruin public spaces for the rest of us, putting our health and environment at risk. And they expect others to pick up the clean-up bill.

Things are changing. Illegal dumping will not go unnoticed or unpunished.

About the Taskforce

The Illegal Waste Disposal Taskforce partners EPA, DEECA and the Conservation Regulator.

Working with councils, we're bringing together expertise in policy, intelligence, compliance and enforcement.

Together we will target illegal dumping in key locations across the state through:

Detection

We will catch more people flouting environmental laws. We'll use enhanced intelligence, analytics and technology.

Compliance

With more officers on the ground, we will intensify our regulatory actions and hold offenders to account.

Deterrence

We will work with higher-risk industries to prevent illegal dumping.

Our role

As Victoria’s environmental regulator, we chair the Illegal Waste Disposal Taskforce. We provide leadership, coordination and regulatory expertise to drive a unified response.

We lead practical, on the ground action to prevent, disrupt and deter illegal waste dumping. We'll target known hot spots and strengthen our presence. This includes expanded surveillance and detection activities, and bolstered capability.

Apply for help

When we cannot find those responsible, councils and other land managers can apply for a rebate to clean up illegally dumped waste.
